Canto, a leading provider of digital asset management (DAM) software, today announced expanded operations in Ireland. The investment will strengthen Canto’s existing innovation center in Cork, with plans to grow the office as part of the company’s global product development strategy.
This project is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland.
Minister for Enterprise, Tourism & Employment Peter Burke TD said: “The Irish Government supports Canto's expansion in Cork, creating 50 new jobs. This investment underscores our dedication to innovation and technological advancement, reinforcing Ireland's position as a leader in AI and software development. The Cork region, with its strong educational institutions like University College Cork and Munster Technological University, provides an excellent environment for fostering innovation and developing specialised talent, and IDA Ireland provides invaluable support to companies seeking to utilise this ecosystem. We look forward to Canto's continued growth and positive impact. Congratulations to all.”
“As we continue to expand our global engineering efforts, Ireland is proving to be an essential part of our success story. Our continued expansion underscores our confidence in the exceptional technical talent and innovation ecosystem here,” said Wain Kellum, CEO of Canto. “As demand for our single-source-of-truth digital asset management solutions continues to accelerate, our Cork operations will play a pivotal role in driving next-generation product development and supporting customers across the entire content ecosystem — from creation to delivery.”
Cork will serve as a strategic European hub for several core initiatives, including advanced AI research, cloud infrastructure optimisation, frontend modernisation, and the continued development of Canto’s unified DAM and product information management (PIM) platform. These innovations come at a critical time, as organisations worldwide are under pressure to manage increasingly complex digital content ecosystems.
“This investment reflects our commitment to staying ahead of the curve in digital asset management,” said Brendan Butler, Managing Director, Canto Ireland. “Working with IDA Ireland has been instrumental in making this expansion possible. By connecting with Ireland’s world-class technology community, we’re able to accelerate the development of solutions that directly address our customers’ most pressing content management challenges.”
The announcement follows a period of substantial growth for Canto. The company currently serves approximately 4,000 customers globally across industries including retail, manufacturing, healthcare, education, technology, and beyond. Already in 2025, Canto has been named to G2’s Best Software List for Content Management and to Constellation Research’s ShortList™ for Digital Asset Management for Digital Experiences.
CEO of IDA Ireland Michael Lohan said "Canto’s decision to grow its presence in Cork is a strong endorsement of the country’s reputation as a leading hub for innovative technology companies. Our deep talent pool, stable business environment, and strong track record in supporting global companies make Ireland an attractive location for growth and innovation."
Canto’s expanded global operations support its worldwide customer base and builds on the company’s strategic acquisitions, including MerlinOne in 2023, which enhanced its AI-powered visual search capabilities, and Image Relay in 2024, which led to Canto’s industry-leading unified DAM and PIM solution. The Cork facility will drive further integration and enhancement of these technologies across Canto’s product portfolio.
The company also plans to partner with local universities and research institutions to foster innovation and develop specialised talent pipelines. Current and upcoming R&D activities at the Cork center include:
