Amazon's Dublin Hub is Focused on Engineering

Between 2011 and 2018, AWS contributed more than €2 billion in capital expenditure and ongoing operational spend in data centre construction and operation in Ireland, hiring more than 2,000 employees directly.

AWS works with several Irish colleges and universities as part of its AWS Educate and AWS Academy programmes. AWS Educate provides member institutes such as the Dublin Institute of Technology, Dublin City University, and the University of Limerick with no-cost access to learning content and AWS services designed to build knowledge and skills in cloud computing.

Amazon’s permanent workforce in Ireland is forecast to reach 5,000 people. Its main function in Dublin is engineering, where staff are proficient across a mix of programming languages, including C, C++, C#, Java, Perl and object-oriented design. The hub focuses on engineering across several disciplines including software and network engineering, data centre engineering, support and systems engineering, security and Big Data, and DevOps.
